The Vikings came out strong after a couple weeks off to take on Friday Harbor, at home, on Jan. 10.
The Vikings kept the game close, with the crowd at the edge of their seats throughout the game. Orcas fans came alive, helping to give the Vikings energy to push through and finish the game strong. In the end the Vikings took the lead with about 4 minutes left and never looked back, with 3-pointers by Tomas Holmes and Diego Lago that helped to seal the game. The final score was 55-47, Vikings.
The team has three games this week, two being league matchups. They will play at home on Jan. 17 at 4:30 p.m. and Jan. 18 at 1 p.m. to take on La Conner and Sultan, respectively.
Coming off of a five-point loss versus South Whidbey, the Lady Vikings kept the momentum going in the Orcas gym following the boys’ win. The team took the lead against the Wolverines early on in the first quarter, and continued playing tough defense all the way through, leading to their 57-32 victory.
Orcas played its best defense so far of the season, holding Friday Harbor to only 32 points, the lowest number of points allowed within the first eight games.
The team played Evergreen Lutheran at home on Jan. 11 and traveled to La Conner on Jan. 14 with the boys.
