Even though the Vikings led 15-0 through most of the game, every moment against the Darrington Loggers was filled with hard-fought play. With three minutes to go in the fourth quarter, the Loggers scored their only touchdown, leaving the Vikings with a 15-6 victory in Saturday’s home game.

In the first quarter, Tyler Nigretto earned three points for the Vikings by running the ball into the end zone. Taylor Diepenbrock intercepted a pass intended for the Loggers’ wide reciever, and made a 32 yard run down the field, which put Jacob Hansen in excellent field position for the touch down. The extra point was no good and bounced off the goal post, making the score in favor of the Vikings 9-0.

In the second quarter, the Logger offensive drive faltered and they fumbled the ball. The Vikings recovered possession and with a new first and ten on the 10 yard line, Hansen made his second touchdown of the day, but again the kick was blocked.

The Vikings capitalized on Logger passing mistakes, picking off balls intended for receivers and breaking up plays. But the Loggers’ defensive line in the third quarter would not give way; the Vikings got all the way down to the four yard line but could not make it into the end zone.

The Loggers regained possession of the ball and had great momentum in their offensive drive but the Vikings stopped them cold with a quarterback sack on the fourth down.

The fourth quarter saw several great plays from Robbie Padbury, Tyler Leidecker and Henry Bredouw, but penalties hampered several sizable runs made by the Vikings. With only three minutes left to go, the Logger defense and made their first and only score of the game.

The Vikings’ final game in regular play is this Thursday, Nov. 6 at 1 p.m. on Dahl field.
