Orcas Golf traveled to Lopez Island on March 22 to play the Lobos. Orcas head coach Bobby Olmsted said the sunny conditions were perfect to play Lopez coach Richard Tetu’s talented team.

“Lopez is always a tough and challenging course,” said Olmsted. “The Lady Vikings took control with Maia Lewis-Shunk scoring the low round of the day for the Vikings with a very impressive 45 followed by sister Zoe with a 54. The girl’s team is showing great signs of improvement all around. Despite similar scores to last week, I saw progress with the boy’s team with Ricardo De Anda and Ewan Lister both scoring 62 and Rowan Lister shooting a 65.”

On March 24 the Orcas Golf team traveled to Marysville to play Grace Academy at Cedarcrest Golf Course. Conditions took a major twist according to Olmsted.

“What a difference a day can make,” said Olmsted. “We had a torrential rain storm throughout the match at Cedarcrest … The Lady Vikings had the return of Lexi Pence and for her first match and she shot a respectable 67 followed by Zoe Lewis-Shunk with a 65 and sister Maia Lewis Shunk with a 52, scoring the girl’s medalist. On the boy’s team, Ewan Lister led with an impressive 65 on a course that he had never played followed by Ricardo De Anda’s 68 and Rowan Lister’s 69.”
