Viking boys’ soccer run competition ragged

The Orcas Vikings’ boys soccer team left their competitors and fans breathless, but the team had steam to spare, apparently, as they vanquished their Grace Academy foes, 5-0 on Saturday, Sept. 20.

Vikings coach Matt Stolmeier said, “The team is all energetic and hardworking. I’m really impressed by their fitness level. It brings on good team chemistry; we’re using the entire team.”

Ten minutes into the beginning of the game, senior Barrett North scored the first of three goals in the game.

That was soon followed by a second drive downfield, with senior Alex Waldron scoring a second goal.

In the second half North scored a second goal, and senior Sam Parish made the fourth goal of the game.

As sophomore Robin Gropp pursued the ball in the box, the opposing team’s goalkeeper was penalized for a high kick where his cleats were in danger of injuring other players.

North kicked the penalty goal for his third goal of the game, a “hat trick” described by Coach Stolmeier that North had achieved in the team’s previous game against Lopez. Waldron had also achieved a hat trick in the game against Lopez.

The next Viking boys soccer game will be Sept. 30 at North Sound Christian. Their next home game will be Oct. 4 at 4 p.m. against Shoreline.
