The weather is getting chillier as our Lady Vikings warm up for the basketball season ahead.
“We have a great crew of experienced players, and several who have been playing together for years; they are really ready to show off their skills,” said head coach Haley Cruz Winchell.
This year’s varsity team is Isla Sasan #0, Molly Johnston #1, Ivy Shaefer #2, Scarlett Luft #3, Abril Perez-Dominguez #5, Charlotte Winter-Lamphere #12, Emi Rios #20, Margo Winter-Lamphere #21, Renata Puente, Sofia Mahony Jauregui #23, Mia Ashcraft #24, Gisselle Valladarez #25 and Emily Ibarra Garcia #32.
“We’ll be missing Charlotte, who is still recovering from an injury at the end of last season, but her sister Margo is finally off the injured list and ready to put up some buckets for us,” Cruz Winchell said. “Abril and Sofia will certainly be standouts again this season, with Sofia working close to setting some school records!”
There is one freshman player on the varsity team, Scarlet Luft.
“Our only other new addition to the team is a freshman standout, Scarlet, who is going to be a rebounding superstar,” Cruz Winchell said.
The Vikings played their first game on Wednesday, Dec. 3, against Mount Baker.
“We have big goals for a winning season, while prioritizing keeping positive attitudes and finding the fun for the next three months,” says Cruz Winchell.
