Strong expectations for Vikings golf team

Bobbie Olmsted returns as the head Viking of golf accompanied by the venerable oversight of Bob Nutt as assistant. Benefiting from a majority of the team returning, Olmsted’s expectations are clear after a trip to the state tournament last season.

“The girls went to state last year, but they didn’t make the cut. This year, state is back in Spokane, and I expect the girls and boys to make it,” said Olmsted. “I have eight players: five boys and three girls. Since there are not enough 2B girls in our district to play in the postseason, the girls are still bunched up with the 1A girls, so that’s their challenge. Lummi Nation has been added to our league this year, which is really good since when we play them away, we play their home course at North Bellingham, which is where the girl’s state qualifier is held. All the players are looking good; they are excited. Bob and I are excited. We’re ready to play.”
