On July 20, the Funhouse will open a nine-hole mini-golf course on their grounds for an afternoon fundraiser from 1 to 4 p.m.
The temporary course is being constructed by a team of adult and teen volunteers from the Teen Expedition Group at Camp Orkila. The leaders of the group are Ian Wilkie and Samantha Creed.
San Juan County’s Environmental Health Manager Mark Tompkins reports that all of the County’s scheduled septic system inspection classes have been filled through December.

Port of Orcas commissioners discussed land purchases, stipends and hangar leases at their July 10 meeting.
It’s getting close to the first snap of the season and the Orcas Kings Youth Football players are ready. Denny Rancourt returns to the sidelines as head coach of both the Junior, and the Senior teams. All players that are under 14 years of age or younger before September 1, 2008 are welcomed to join the team. Practices start July 28 at 4L30 p.m. at the upper field behind the school.
Junior Sailing offers students between the ages of 8 and 15 an opportunity to learn to sail in a variety of boats. Students are encouraged to progress in their sailing ability to larger, faster and more sophisticated boats.
The second annual Turtleback Open Golf Tournament benefitting Turtleback Mountain takes place Sunday, July 13 at the Orcas Island Golf Course.

All levels of golfers welcome, islanders and visitors alike! A fun-filled day of golf, food, friends and prizes galore including round trip airline tickets to anywhere in the US and a timeshare vacation! Net proceeds will be donated to the San Juan Preservation Trust specifically to maintain the trails and beauty of Turtleback Mountain.
High school varsity girls basketball coach, Terry Moran-Hodge, and girls from the varsity squad will lead a basketball camp July 7-9 (3:00-5:00) for girls entering grades 5-9. There will be individual and group instruction. Girls will learn how to play Viking style basketball. Scrimmaging will be separated into two groups. This camp is for players who would like to play on middle school, junior varsity, and varsity teams as will as girls who do not plan to play on a team and would like to learn skills and have fun. This is an opportunity to learn from varsity players, meet the coach early in your career, and make an impression. All levels of players are welcome. The cost of the camp ($45) includes a camp t-shirt. Pre-registration is encouraged although girls may register on the day of the camp. Funds generated will go towards the girls basketball program. Children and youth ages 7-18 are invited for a giant game of Capture the Flag at Buck Park, July 4 from 10-noon There will also be egg toss, relay races, Egg-on-a-Spoon Race, and other fun outdoor games.
