Orcas wrestlers in Oak Harbor

Six wrestlers from the Orcas Island Wrestling Club competed in the Western Washington Kids Wrestling League Oak Harbor novice tournament on Jan. 19. The team placed ninth for wins out of the 25 attending teams and 12th for pins.

Brooks Hawley placed fourth in the 6U 42.4-45.2 pound class. He lost his first two matches by getting pinned and lost his third match to a 16-0 technical fall.

Elliot Wooding took second place in the 8U 44-46 pound class. He won his first match with a pin, lost his second match to a 22-7 tech fall and won his third match with a pin in the second round.

Caden King took first place in the 8U 52.7-56.4 pound class. He won his first match with a pin, won his second match with a 13-0 major decision and won his third match with an 11-0 major decision.

David Nunez took first place in the 8U 71-77 pound class. He won his first match with an 8-5 decision, won his second match with a pin and won his third match with a 17-0 tech fall.

Cru Hawley took second place in the 10U 65.8-71 pound class. He won his first match with a pin, lost his second match by a 10-9 decision and won his third match with a pin.

Alexis Armas placed fourth in the 12U 81.8-85.2 pound class. She lost all three of her matches by getting pinned but has shown much improvement despite the results.

As the season keeps marching along, the young wrestlers keep practicing and improving their skills and focus on the mat. With just a few weeks left in the season, it is great to see the determination they are displaying as they get ready for the upcoming tournaments.
