Nine wrestlers from the Orcas Island Wrestling Club traveled to Mount Vernon High School to compete in the Western Washington Kids Wrestling League Rex Febus novice tournament on Jan. 26. The team placed ninth out of 25 teams for winning percentage and won a cumulative total of 14 out of 27 matches.
Brooks Hawley competed in the 6U 43-44 pound class and placed fourth. He lost his first match by a 15-3 major decision, lost his second match by a pin and lost his third match by an 18-2 tech fall.
Elliot Wooding took second place in the 8U 43.8-46 pound class. He won his first match with a pin, lost his second match by a 12-3 major decision and won his third match with a pin.
Caden King placed third in the 8U 55-55.6 pound class. He lost his first match by getting pinned, lost his second match by getting pinned and won his third match with a 9-0 major decision.
David Nunez placed second in the 8U 71.2-77.8 pound class. He won his first match with a pin, lost his second match by getting pinned and won his third match with a pin.
Cru Hawley placed second in the 66.1-67 pound class. He won his first match with an 18-12 decision, lost his second match by a 15-7 major decision and won his third match with a pin.
Weston Wooding placed first in the 86.6-88.4 pound class. He won his first match with a pin, won his second match with a 12-1 major decision and won his third match with an 18-0 tech fall.
Aria Griffin placed second in the 62.4-65 pound class. She won her first match with a pin, won her second match with a pin and lost her third match by an 11-1 major decision.
Alexis Armas placed third in the 12U 83-88.2 pound class. She lost her first match by getting pinned, won her second match by a forfeit and lost her third match by a 19-4 tech fall.
Anston Feagins took second place in the 12U 90-90.8 pound class. He won his first match with a 19-3 tech fall, won his second match with an 11-2 major decision and lost his third match by getting pinned.
With another tournament behind them, the Orcas Island Wrestling Club is looking forward to having a couple more practices to get tuned up and ready for the novice championships that will be happening on Sunday, Feb. 2, in Stanwood.
