Orcas Vikings fall to the Quilcene Rangers in district playoffs

On Thursday, May 7 at Buck Park, the Vikings lost 17-6 to the Quilcene Rangers, and ended their participation in district playoffs for the season.

The lead-off pitcher for the Vikings, Daniel Janssen, had a rough spell in an early inning and walked six Rangers but also had five strikeouts. The Rangers took advantage and got several big hits off of Janssen. Brad Brouland then came in for the Vikings and did a fair job with only four walks and four strikeouts against the Rangers. Robbie Padbury pitched for one strikeout and had eight walks.

“Quilcene is a good team, and got the hits when it counted,” Coach Joe Duenn commented. “It’s been the story of our season with our current losses; we’ve had too many outs and too many runs. We had some opportunities to put them away but our errors killed us. Whenever you give another team too many opportunities to score, that leads to more errors. We had a learning group of youngsters this year, and I know that, looking forward, the experience can only help them improve in the coming years.”
