Orcas Island High School concluded its 2025 track and field season this past weekend at the WIAA 2B State Track and Field Championships at Eisenhower High School.

For the boys, Juelz Mahone Arias and Forest Frausto competed in the 110-meter hurdles, while Drew Nunez represented Orcas in the 300-meter hurdles. Frausto also participated in the high jump, and Elijah Griffith ran in the 800 meters. Chase Connell competed in both the shot put and discus events.

“Chase Connell surged to a third-place finish in the discus with a school record of 156 feet, 5 inches in a field loaded with good throwers,” said Orcas head coach Frank Rohm.

Connell’s third-place finish in the discus was the highest of the meet for the Orcas boys, while Frausto secured a top-10 finish in the high jump, placing eighth.

The boys’ team had other notable performances, Rohm added.

“Elijah Griffith was extremely ill in the week leading up to the meet but somehow broke his own school record in the 800 prelims,” Rohm said. “Our hurdling trio — Forest Frausto, Drew Nunez, and Juelz Arias — ran strong races despite being ill after the district meet but did not advance to the final.”

The Orcas boys finished 25th out of 36 teams in the 1B division, earning a total of 6.5 points.

On the girls’ side, Sofia Mahoney-Jauregui threw the javelin and finished 10th, while Margo Winter-Lamphere competed in the 200 meters. Winter-Lamphere scored both of the team’s points with her performance in the 200, helping the girls place 35th out of 38 teams.

“Margo Winter-Lamphere shattered her own school record in the 200 final, taking seventh place with a time of 26.65,” Rohm said.
