Orcas Golfers qualify for state champs

Miles McCloskey earned the boys' league championship on May 10. He and Tommy Granger, Chase Drake, Julia Bailey, Jessica Gudgell and Courtney Ray qualified for district playoffs at the Tuesday match.

On Thursday, May 12 the team traveled to district championships. The competition has a nine-hole maximum cutoff score of 65 for girls and 55 for boys. Gudgell, Bailey and McCloskey played the entire course. McCloskey came in 19th, with a 97, and will be one of the top 20 players in the district to compete at the state tournament. Gudgell finished in the top 10; Bailey finished just one stroke behind the fourth place finisher, with a 110, and will attend the state tournament as one of two alternates who will accompany the four top female players from the district.

Drake did not compete due to illness.
