The Vikings pulled off a 52-45 win against Bush Academy last week.

“Our kids played hard and they learned a lot about what we can improve on as individuals, as basketball players,” said head coach Dan Drake. “We had success, but we also found out what we need to work on for the next game.”

At half time the Vikings were behind 21-19. But they came back.

“The third quarter was pretty close, then we broke away in the fourth quarter,” said Drake. “A couple players sank a couple key baskets.” Chase Drake and Aubrey Schermerhorn each hit a three-pointer, helping seal the win for Orcas.

High scorers for the game:Schermerhorn drilled in 24 points; Mikail Van Maren put in 8 points; and Jake Zier and Chase Drake each sank 7 points.

“The important thing is, we played a man-to-man defense the whole game,” said Dan. “The kids took ownership in who they were guarding. That’s what we want to see – a tough man to man … I was really pleased; it was a fun game for them.”
