The Orcas Christian School Saints Volleyball teams picked up their first win of the 2015 season with a 3-2 win in 5 sets over the Skykomish High School Sky Rockets in front of a home crowd at the Orcas Christian School gym last week.

The last time these two sides met was in the season opener where Skykomish beat Orcas Christian 3-1 in four sets. Eager to even the season series, Team Captain Caitlyn Fowler had another big game for the Saints as she led the team with: 9 aces, 2 digs and 8 kills. Fellow Saint Maelle Comrie also was instrumental in the win and prevalent on the stat sheet with her 7 aces and 4 kills, while her sister Alaena racked up 6 kills. Emily Toombs ended the night with 4 aces and Moriah Claus finished with 2 digs and 1 kill.

“It was great to see the girls get the win and reap the benefits of all their hard work, these girls are the reason I love coaching volleyball,” said Coach Breezy Davis.

Leading up to Monday’s contest, the Saints lost 3-0 to Tulalip Heritage on Sept. 24, and dropped a hard fought 3-0 game Arlington-Highland Christian game.

Riding the momentum from their first win, the Saints took on Grace Academy. In the contest, Comrie had a dynamic outing with 5 aces and 2 digs. Fowler led her Saint’s teammate with 5 kills and 4 digs. However, the saints would lose the match in three extremely close sets.

After the game Fowler said, “Success isn’t given; it is earned on the court and in the gym, with blood, sweat and the occasional tear. That’s how the OCS Saints play, win or lose.”
