Lobos Coach Mellonnie Altona, however, was pleased with the young women’s performance and noted that the players hamstrung themselves with too many missed serves and a lack of focus brought on by first-night nerves.

Hanifah McGovern, Emily PostvanderBurg, Marina Steinbrueck and Sarah Stanley all attacked the net with a few kills each. There were many good set ups and deliveries, and few balls dropped. Coach Altona remarked that “though there were mistakes brought on by the stress of playing together for the first time,” she was very pleased with the young women’s attitudes and their persistent desire to do well.

The Lopez Lobos girls volleyball team plays again on Tuesday, Sept. 16, at Highland Christian, starting at 2:15 pm. Then the team is at home on Saturday Sept. 20, playing the Orcas Vikings and the Friday Harbor Wolverines in an inter-island volleyball tournament at Lopez School.
