The Junior Varsity Viking softball team hosted the Friday Harbor Junior Varsity Wolverine team at Buck Park Tuesday.  In a 14-4 win, the entire Viking team now focuses on districts this Saturday in Stanwood, Wash., where the Vikings play a round robin with LaConner and Tacoma Baptist. All teams play five inning games against each other with the top two teams advancing to the state playoffs. But with success comes a price tag.

Coach Scott Harris said the Lady Vikings need to raise $2,000 this week to pay for state tournament expenses. Harris said donations can be made to the Booster Club via Diana Hofmann at 376-7585. Making the state playoffs is a highlight of any high school athlete, so the Booster Club looks forward to hearing from you!

Harris called Tuesday’s JV game “A great opportunity for our younger players to play. They did a fantastic job, hit well and played good defense.”  The Vikings opened with Bella Nigretto pitching to catcher Liz Tully, striking out three young wolverines right off the bat. Kilee Rogers, Tully and Katie Holley hits followed by an Alicia Jo Susol bunt brought the score to 3-0 in the first inning. Kirsten Fowler and Hanna Brunner-Gaydos RBI’s in the second combined with a Holley RBI in the third made it 8-0. A startled Viking squad executed a textbook triple play in the fifth, surprising themselves as much as the cheering Orcas crowd. And so it continued…

State playoffs are May 25-26 in Yakima, Wash.
