High School sailing team breezes through single-handed championships

The High School sailing team came away with a second and fourth place win during the two day championships held at Cascade Locks, Ore. The sailors, which included Lee Gibbons, Josh Inch, Connor O’Neil, Annalies Schuh, Cameron Schuh, Taylor Smith, and Jake White, all traveled to the Northwest Interscholastic Sailing Association’s (NWISA) Singlehanded Championships on Sept. 5 and 6.

The Columbia Gorge Racing Association (CGRA) hosted this championship event, running 14 races over the course of the two day regatta. There was plenty of wind for all of the sailors with gusts peaking at 25 knots on Sunday. Smith placed second in the Laser full rig, showing the fleet great boat speed in the strong winds. White had a slow start to racing Saturday morning in the Laser radial fleet, but came on strong Sunday, winning two races and finishing fourth overall.

Sept. racing continues for the team with the JAMS regatta at PMYC on Sept. 12 and 13, the Orcas Open on Sept. 19 and 20 and the Octoberfest at SSP on Sept. 26 and 27.
