The Vikings girls neatly dispatched the Shoreline Crusaders Saturday night, Jan. 23.

“I thought it went really well and we used everything we’ve been working on in practice,” commented senior forward Alison O’Toole.

The Lady Vikes dominated the game, establishing a 15-point lead by halftime, at 24 to 9.

“We really had them rattled with our press,” coach Terry Moran-Hodge explained. With the Vikings at a comfortable lead, Moran-Hodge toned down the pressure, subbing out his starting five to give other players some court time.

“They brought some good energy in off the bench,” said Moran-Hodge, adding,

“The chemistry’s real good with these girls; they all seem to want to pitch in and help.

Stephanie Shaw and Padbury led the scoring, followed by O’Toole. The final score was 46 to 23.

But the Lady Vikings have no intention of resting on their laurels, sweet as the scent of victory might be. With only four games left in the regular season, the Vikings will be conditioning hard in hopes of winning every game so they can hit district as the top seed.

“There’s always room for improvement, so this week we’ll be conditioning and focusing on everything we need to work on,” said O’Toole.

“We just don’t want to take anything for granted,” added Moran-Hodge.

The Vikings will play a home game against Friday Harbor on Tuesday, Feb. 2 at 430 p.m.

“It’s going to be a real barn-burner,” said Moran-Hodge. “If we beat Friday Harbor we’ll be tied with them for league lead. Last time we went to overtime. It’ll be a really tough game.” The boys game will follow, at 6 p.m.

The Lady Vikings beat Concrete on Jan. 21 with a score of 59 to 48.
