Skatepark enthusiasm

With reference to Guest Opinion by Shawn O’Bryant in your Oct 15 issue, I want to express my strong support for Shawn’s article which I think is well done and expresses very sound argument to keep the Skate park open.

Having witnessed – video taping – the fund raising and construction of the Skate Park, I don’t think there was such enthusiasm surrounding a local project since the rise of the Orcas Center! To close it now would be to dash the hopes and dreams of so many who believed in the joy it would bring to the younger members of our community and, its even greater value in supplanting the problems of skate boarding and less endearing pursuits in the streets of Eastsound.

Surely we have not become such a molly-coddled community that what Shawn calls, “the occasional beer-sipper” is considered to out-weigh the advantages he details?

I wonder, could it be something to do with the fact that a “uniformed Ray” is no longer so apparent.
