Jan. 10, 1942 – Jan. 20, 2020.

Marie Elizabeth Bechtel, 78, a 31-year resident of Orcas Island. passed away peacefully on Jan. 20, 2020 after a lingering illness. She was born on Jan. 10, 1942 in Washington, D.C. to Amedee and Anne Berube. Her final months were made comfortable by several excellent local caregivers and the Hospice of the Northwest.

Marie was a homemaker and enjoyed being at home working on her projects. She was very organized and helped several local individuals and businesses organize themselves, particularly when bookkeeping was involved. Her favorite project was trying (frequently unsuccessfully) to get her husband organized.

She is survived by her husband of 46 years, Doug; her children, Michael and Kimberly Nusbaum; her sisters, Alice Dixon, Lucille Caffrey and Irene LeCourt; and her brothers, Louis and Raymond Berube.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorials be made to Hospice of the Northwest. A memorial service is planned for June 6.
