Marguerite Jane Goodrow

Our beautiful mother, grandmother and great-grandmother died at home on Tuesday, November 16, 2010. She was 95 years old. Marguerite was born October 16, 1915 at the family farmhouse on Lopez Island. She was the second child and only daughter born to James and Barbara McCauley. She lived on Lopez for 87 years before moving to Burlington in 2002.

Marquerite married Byron (Barney) Goodrow on March 20, 1937 in a ceremony performed by Barney’s father. Together, they raised two daughters and one son on Lopez Island, and enjoyed 67 years of marriage before Barney’s death in 2004.

Marquerite and Barney farmed for a living in their early years of marriage. She later became a very successful realtor on Lopez. She was involved in her community, volunteering countless hours making Christmas wreaths for the annual sale as well as volunteering at the thrift store.

Marquerite was preceded in death by her husband, Barney and great-grandson Joshua Goodrow, both in 2004; her parents and her brother Sam McCauley.

In addition to her many friends and extended family, Marquerite is survived by two daughters; Nancy (Marvin) Fowler of Mountlake Terrace, WA and Barbara (Dick Pickering) of Lopez, WA and one son, Jim(Becky) Goodrow of Mount Vernon. WA. She is also survived by 11 grandchildren, Mary (Mark) Garret, Bret (Jodi) Fowler, Bart (Stephanie) Fowler, Bryon (Christy) Fowler, Jeff (Karlena) Pickering, Jennifer (Esa) Turunen, Chet Goodrow, Jamie Knodel, Shani (Royle) Johnson, Marlo (Jason) Flores and Amy (Steve) Soule; 30 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren.
