Lawrence Forsythe

Following a prolonged illness, Lawrence Donald Forsythe passed away on Nov. 25, 2014. Larry was born in Long Beach, Calif. to a true “Rosie the Riveter” mom, Barbara, and a soldiering dad, Don. Once the war ended, the family moved back to Portland, Oregon where Larry grew up, graduating from Jefferson High School in 1962.

After graduating from the University of Oregon in Eugene, he eventually became Head of the Gerontology Department at Clackamas Community College. He also served for a number of years on the Oregon State Board of Examiners of Nursing Home Administrators.

In 1990, Larry moved to Orcas Island, and in 1991, he and Annie Bristow married. An avid outdoorsman, Larry was equally at home in an elk camp at Long Creek, Ore. fly fishing on the Metolius or rafting his favorite stretch of white water. A great raconteur, and a gourmet chef, Larry was always a most generous host.

For many years Larry was the “Top Hand” for the Pi Valley Llama Ranch, as well as running The Waterfront Gallery with Annie.

Larry is survived by his wife Annie, sister-in-law, Margi Miles and mother-in-law, Jane Bristow, all of Orcas Island. Also his son, Donald Forsythe (Darcy), of Portland, daughter Lisa James (Bob), of Ridgefield, Wash., and his lovely granddaughters, Alexandra and Claire, also of Ridgefield, and his sister, Alice, of Canby, Ore.

Instead of a memorial service, sit at the edge of the water, or stand in the forest, or enjoy great food and drink, and think of Larry.
