Joan Crosby | Passages

Joan Crosby passed away peacefully at the age of 95 on October 1 in Bozeman, Montana where she had recently relocated to live near her stepdaughter and son-in-law. Family along with caregivers were at her side at the time of her passing.

Joan was born in Vancouver, B.C. where she grew up with her parents Murdoch and Anes Campbell, and her older sister, Bea. Joan graduated from Lord Byng High School and later earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of British Columbia in May of 1950.

Joan eventually moved to Seattle, where she met and married Roger Crosby. She proudly became a U.S. citizen in 1968. Roger and Joan loved skiing, boating, and international travel. After many boating trips to the San Juans, they bought property on Orcas in 1974 and later built their home along the shoreline in the Deer Harbor area. They embraced the wonderful community and eventually moved to the island full-time.

Joan loved Orcas Island and contributed in so many ways to the community. She was a member of the Orcas Island Hospital Board and was an active member and leader in the Orcas Tennis Club, the Orcas Island Yacht Club, and the Deer Harbor Community Club.

Joan is survived by her stepson Joel Crosby, her stepdaughter Kristin and husband Steven Enoch, seven grandchildren, and 11 great-grandchildren.

If you would like to make a donation in Joan’s name, please consider contributing to the Deer Harbor Community Club or the San Juan Preservation Trust. A date for celebrating Joan’s life has not yet been finalized.
