James Thomas Harney | Passages

James Thomas Harney, born on July 4, 1930, in Cedar Falls, Iowa, passed away on July 17, 2018, on Orcas Island, Washington.

From 1951 to 1955, James served honorably in the Air Force in the Korean War stationed in Japan as a radio intercept operator. He subsequently went to UC Santa Barbara and joined the Sigma Phi Epsilon fraternity with cherished brothers. Jim taught industrial arts for 30 years and was a talented furniture maker. He taught in Munich, Germany, Santa Barbara and Huntington Beach, California, and traveled extensively with his wife Pamela Liggett Harney, whom he married in 1966.

Jim and Pam spent the last 26 years in the home they designed and built on Orcas Island and were blessed with 52 years together. He is survived by their sons David Wayne Harney and Ryan James Harney, his brother Jack Harney and extended family.
