Iris Freeman

Iris Freeman passed away peacefully Feb. 4, 2010 at the home of her beloved sister Mary Ritchie with her family by her side following a brief battle with cancer.

Born in Anacortes, Wash. on Sept. 24, 1927 to E.H (Bob) and Valeria Kelton, Iris grew up on Blakely and Orcas and following her marriage to Pierre Franklin, made Lopez her home until moving to Prosser with her second husband Stanley (Bill) Freeman in 1988.

Iris was preceded in death by husband Bill and brothers Bob and Billy Kelton. She is survived by sister Mary Ritchie, daughters Marie Luckhurst and Valerie Yukluk, son Jon Franklin, six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.

Iris will be interred at Lopez Union Cemetery and where the whales play in Alaska. At her request there will be no services. In lieu of flowers, donations in her name can be made to the Lopez Island 4-H Club.

A life celebration will be held Saturday, March 6 at Woodmen Hall on Lopez Island from 2 to 4 p.m. Bring a potluck dish and your best stories.
