Gordon Lea Hayes | Passages

September 30, 1928, to December 8, 2017

Gordon Lea Hayes, 89, passed away on Dec. 8, 2017, in Ivins, Utah. He was born on Sept. 30, 1928, in Idaho Falls, Idaho, to Leander and Emma Hayes. Gordon’s family moved from Idaho to Logan, Utah, then to Las Vegas his senior year, graduating from Las Vegas High in 1947. He attended the University of Nevada at Reno. After college, he and his father and brothers founded Stage Sound & Equipment Co., installing and maintaining lighting and sound systems in Las Vegas. He earned the first Master Electrician license ever issued in the state of Nevada. After Gordon retired, he and his wife Marge moved to Orcas Island.

Gordon and Marge dedicated their time and talents in the reconstruction of the Orcas Center. They were very involved in community affairs and donated much to assist in local projects. They received much recognition and gained many close friends in East Sound and Friday Harbor. Gordon loved sailing, traveling, and fixer-up projects at home and for others.

A celebration of his life is planned for the spring in St. George, Utah. In lieu of flowers the family requests memorial donations be made to ARTe Gallery, 415 S Dixie Drive, St. George, UT, 84770. All contributions will be sent to Children’s Justice Center. Condolences may be sent to that address also.
