Evelyn was born Aug. 25, 1912 in Snohomish to Sophie and Rinehart Henning. She passed away Aug. 6, 2011 at age 98.
Evelyn graduated from Providence Nursing School in Seattle in 1933. She worked as a nurse and at Blue Cross for many years. In 1939, she married Morris “Red” Hazell, who preceded her in death.
Evelyn is survived by two daughters, Suzanne Lippmann (Kurt) and Annette Hazell. A third daughter, Maureen Waldal, passed away of MS. Evelyn has four grandchildren: Deb Waldal Smith (Adrian), Ken Waldal (Kristi), Sonia Lippmann, and Kurt Lippmann (Shari). She has seven great grandchildren, one great-great-grandson, and many nieces and nephews. She was loved dearly by all her relatives and friends.
Evelyn and Red’s love for Orcas Island started with their first vacation in 1943. It became an annual tradition that she has passed on to five generations of family and friends at Beach Haven Resort. This tradition will continue on in the future.
A Celebration of Life will be held at Seattle Elks Club #92, September 11, at 12 p.m. The address is 301 Queen Anne Ave N. Seattle, Wa. 98109. Donations can be made to the MS Society or Tall Elks Therapy.
