Dennis (Denny) Rancourt | Passages

August 25, 1950 to April 14, 2023

We sadly lost a husband, father, friend, and coach on April 14, 2023. Dennis fought valiantly against his lung cancer and later, cancer of the brain.

Dennis was born in Seattle on August 25, 1950 to Dale and Vivian Rancourt. Five siblings arrived soon after.

He lived many years in Marysville and then moved to Spokane where he attended high school. He spent two years attending junior college in Wenatchee where he met Mary. He transferred to Central Washington College and earned a teaching certificate. He played football at WVC and at Central and had a lifelong love of the game.

He taught and coached in the Lyle and Endicott Washington school systems. An opportunity to run a truck farm and produce stand brought the family, now including son Robbie, to Quincy, Washington. Dennis, Mary and Robbie moved to Orcas Island early in 1979. A 10-year wedding anniversary was celebrated at Rosario Resort where they had spent their honeymoon.

Dennis was the produce manager at Templins Store and later at the new Island Market. A son Ryan and a daughter Hilary would be born during these years.

Dennis is survived by his wife Mary, mother Vivian Winters of La Conner, sons Rob and Ryan (Chelsea) and daughter Hilary, four grandsons, Andrew and Cole Rancourt, Dayton and Dominik Witt, and granddaughter Norah Madden. He is also survived by two sisters, Judy Zimmerman (Tom), La Conner and Sandra Rancourt.

He was pre-deceased by his father Dale, stepfather Bob Winters, sister Susan Rancourt and his two brothers Stacy and Tom.

Dennis loved his family, home and gardens, many pets, and coaching his beloved Kings youth football teams. A certain championship was a feather in his cap as was coaching the Kings in the former Kingdome.

We imagine Dennis is singing tunes with two of his favorite lads, John and George.
