Carroll Louise Neill | 1938 – 2019

1938 – 2019

It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Carroll Louise Neill. Carroll was born in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada on March 28, 1938, and died in Eastsound on Dec. 8, 2019, aged 81. Carroll is survived by her husband of 59 years, Terry Neill and their daughters Jennifer Dakin (Warren) and Andrea Sweeney (Michael) and her grandsons Ted Dakin, Shane Sweeney and Dylan Sweeney as well as several cousins.

Carroll was predeceased by her parents William Grenfell Matthewman and Margaret Kean and her stepmother Hazel Matthewman. She attended Ottawa public schools and then Queens University in Kingston where she earned an honors BA in history and economics.

A month after graduating she married Terry, a pilot in the Royal Canadian Air Force. Together they passed five happy years in Comox on Vancouver Island where their first daughter was born. After Terry left the air force they moved to Long Island where they lived for the next 31 years and where their second daughter was born. Upon Terry’s retirement in 1997 they moved to Orcas Island and settled in Deer Harbor.

Carroll had a great love of dogs, especially her German Shepherds and a life-long love of reading — mostly history but leavened with large doses of mysteries. She continued this on Orcas where she studied history and Latin with her dear friend Francie Kisko.Carroll will be remembered for her gentle, loving nature and her sweet smile and easy laughter.
