Local residents are coordinating a Orcas Youth Community Corps for 2013.  There will be an open forum meeting at The Funhouse Commons on Monday, Dec. 10 at 6:30 p.m.

The Lopez Island Conservation Corps and the San Juan Island Conservation Corps are collaborating to help with the endeavor.  Parents, educators, counselors, youth and curious folk are invited to attend the presentations.

There will be a summer program followed by monthly projects. Local conservation corps provide county-wide environmental conservation activities for youth such as habitat enhancement, trail maintenance and construction, and other land and beach project. Participants in grades seven to 12 receive a stipend when projects are completed.
