WSU extension San Juan County will host a class on growing organic vegetables on Friday, June 10 from 11 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at the Eastsound Fire Station.

The workshop will be taught by Dr. Carol Miles, the extension’s organic vegetable specialist and researcher.

“Learn the latest on soil management, veggie varieties suited to the San Juans, season extension, diseases and pests, crop rotation, seed saving, biodegradable alternatives to plastic mulch, and more.” The class will also visit an Orcas farm to practice vegetable grafting, which organizers say is a new cutting-edge technique that boosts the performance of heirloom tomatoes and eggplants.

Preregistration is required. To register, visit http://sanjuan.wsu.edu or contact Candace Jagel at 370-7664 or candace_jagel@wsu.edu. Registration costs $20 before June 6 and $25 after that date.
