WSU BeachWatcher Low Tide Walk The public is invited to join the San Juan County BeachWatchers for a guided nighttime tide pool walk to Indian Island. Meet at Waterfront Park in Eastsound at 8:30 p.m. regardless of the weather. Come with a sense of wonder, wear boots, and bring a small flashlight with red cellophane or translucent red plastic over the lens to reduce the glare. For more information, call 376-2894.

Saturday, Dec. 13

Dog licenses for sale San Juan County dog licenses will be sold at Island Market from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. $12 if spayed or neutered; $30 if intact.

Santa Ship Santa will be arriving at Deer Harbor Marina at 10 a.m. Then he will continue on to the deer harbor community center at 10:30 to open presents and visit with the little ones.

Ann Rule book signing Ann Rule will be signing her new book “Mortal Danger” from 3-4:30 p.m. at Darvill’s Book Store.

Spiral Walk The 18th annual Candlelight Spiral Walk will take place at 3 p.m. at the Oddfellows Hall. A suggested donation of $5 per family or a gift of nonperishable food for the Orcas Island Food Bank would be warmly appreciated.

Orcas Choral Society concert The Orcas Choral Society presents its 31st annual “Joyous Sounds of Christmas” concert at 7:30 p.m at the Orcas Center. Directed by Catherine Pederson and accompanied by Patty Johnson, the 50-member choir presents a festive variety of songs and carols that encompass different musical traditions, arrangements and instrumentation. Tickets are available through the Orcas Center Box Office, 376-ACT 1, or during normal box office hours and are $10 for adults and $3 per student/child.

LGBT support group Out on Orcas, the island’s lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender (LGBT) social and support group, will hold its regular monthly potluck and annual holiday celebration beginning at 6 p.m. All island LGBT, friends and family are welcome. Call 376-2790 for location.

Olga Community Club Potluck Members and guests are invited to the Olga Community Club Holiday Potluck at 5:30 p.m. in the the Olga Community Center. Dinner will be served at 6:30 PM. Attendees are asked to bring their favorite dish of scalloped potatoes (or other potato concoctions), vegetables, salads, rolls or breads and yummy desserts. Dinner Theatre The Outlook Inn is preparing for another November Dinner Theatre with dinner by Chef Sean Paul Frank and a performance by the Victorian Room Readers Theatre. Reservations are highly recommended. Theatre ticket and 3-course dinner is $30; theatre-only tickets are $8. Dinner orders must be received by Tuesday, Dec. 16. Beverages will be available for purchase. Lopez Farmers’ Market poster contest The Lopez Island Farmers’ Market is holding its 3rd annual poster contest, open to Lopez Island residents and 2008 Farmers’ Market members. A cash prize of $400 will be made to the winning artist. Deadline for submitting camera ready artwork is February 1, 2009. The winning poster will be used to promote the 2009 market season and will be for sale at the market. Phat Friday community dance The Lopez High School Band, along with the Lopez Secondary School Student Council, are putting on a community dance, open to all ages, called “Phat Friday.” DJ Sonny Chiba and DJ Nyx, both from Seattle, will spin tunes after the band performs. The fun begins at 7:30 p.m. at the Port Stanley Schoolhouse. The dancing will continue until 11 p.m.

Sunday, Dec. 14

Save Odlin South Local Artists from the Lopez Artists Guild have created and donated 8×8 original works of art, which will be sold to raise money towards the purchase of Odlin South at 5 p.m. at the Lopez Center for Community and the Arts. There will be live music, fancy finger food and beverages. Tax deductible donations for Odlin South are being accepted by the San Juan Land Bank at the event.
