Veterans Day events at school and legion

The American Legion will hold a Veterans Day Service on Sunday, Nov. 11 at 11 a.m. at the Legion Hall, located at 793 Crescent Beach Dr. The public is invited to attend.

“Over the years, Veterans Day has changed its days and names but it has always been a day dedicated to honoring all veterans who have served their country,” say organizers.

Light refreshments will be served immediately following the service.

The Orcas Island School District invites all community members, most especially veterans, to its Tuesday, Nov. 13 Veterans’ Day Assembly. The event will start with a continental breakfast at 8:45 a.m. in the cafeteria. Please RSVP for the breakfast by leaving a message at 360-376-2286. The assembly will begin at 9:30 a.m.

All grades, K-12, will honor veterans. The Community Band will play patriotic music, elementary school students will provide quotes and sing songs highlighting the meaning of service, and middle/high school students will honor our veterans with a “White Table.” (The table is a place of honor, set in memory of fallen, missing, or imprisoned military service-members.) Pat Ayers, a veteran nurse with the Navy, will be a featured speaker at the event. All of the community is invited to this very special recognition of our military heroes.
