Update on Con’s Pit Stop and call for proposals

Submitted by John Vechey.

Con’s Pit Stop closed last month, following an announcement on social media. We are now inviting proposals as we determine next steps for both the business and the building. Con’s has been a vital resource for full-time islanders for many years, and we believe the space is still full of potential. We will consider proposals from individuals or groups who share a vision for a local, community-serving business.

We are prioritizing proposals that maintain the core purpose and community role that Con’s has historically fulfilled: A dependable, affordable, accessible resource for island residents.

We will also be prioritizing proposals that include:

• An owner-operator or co-op model.

• A thoughtful staff compensation plan.

• A clear vision that is centered on the needs of full-time islanders.

• Strong relationships with the Latino community.

• The ability to contribute rent/profits.

• Solid references and a positive community reputation.

We are committed to being flexible with the terms and providing transition support for the right people. Our hope is that the next chapter at 274 A St. builds on the legacy of Con’s Pit Stop and continues to strengthen our community.

For questions or to submit a proposal, please email john@conspitstop.com, in English or Spanish, with an overview of your vision and how it aligns with the priorities listed above. To ensure full consideration, please submit your proposal by Feb. 1.

Thank you for your continued support and for caring about the future of this beloved island institution.
