Tour de Lopez to impact ferries

The annual Tour de Lopez Bicycle event will take place Saturday, April 25 on Lopez Island. Customers can expect heavy bicycle traffic from Anacortes to Lopez on Friday, April 24, and Saturday as participants arrive for this event.

In 1951, Bonneville Power Administration engineers completed the installation of a 7.5-mile, 25,000-volt submarine power cable connecting Anacortes to Decatur Island, which was the world’s longest underwater power line at that time. Approximately 500 spectators gathered along the shoreline, and boats paused their travel to observe the final five miles of high-voltage cable being laid across the bottom of Rosario Strait.
