Tennis trap, foot flight, determined driver | San Juan County Sheriffs’ Log

The San Juan County Sheriff’s office responded to the following calls.

May 6

• A San Juan deputy responded to a report of an order violation. The deputy located an illegally possessed short barreled rifle and entered it into evidence. The subject was not located and the report was sent to the prosecutor’s office for a charging decision.

• An Orcas deputy took a found property report of a found bicycle on Point Lawrence Road.

• A Lopez deputy conducted a traffic stop and issued the driver a citation for speeding, 53 miles per hour in a 35 mile per hour zone. A probable cause report was submitted to the prosecutor’s office for driving with a suspended license, third degree.

• An Orcas deputy responded to a report of an assault on Olga Road near Mt. Constitution. The reporting party was contacted, and an investigation was conducted. The reporting party decided they wanted no law enforcement action taken regarding the incident.

• A San Juan deputy observed a person driving who had a suspended driver’s license and an ignition interlock restriction. The deputy’s report was sent to the prosecutor’s office for a charging decision. The owner of the vehicle was warned for allowing an unauthorized person to drive.

• A deputy in Friday Harbor was contacted by a business owner about a suspicious circumstance. The business owner had just fired an employee and was concerned the employee was not dealing well with the firing. The employee was contacted and was found to be okay.

• Deputies on Orcas responded to a domestic argument that turned out to be verbal only; no crime had been committed.

• Deputies responded to a report of a domestic incident on Orcas. One of the involved parties was arrested for suspicion of assault in the fourth degree – domestic violence.

May 7

• A deputy on San Juan stopped and issued the driver of a vehicle speeding on Bailer Hill Road. The driver was traveling 67 mph in a 45 mph zone.

• A San Juan deputy stopped the driver of a vehicle for speeding on San Juan Valley Road. The driver was issued a citation for operating a motor vehicle without valid proof of insurance, and warnings for speeding and driving without being in possession of a driver’s license.

• Deputies on Orcas responded to the Washington State Ferry Tillicum for a report of an assault on a crewmember. After conducting an investigation, it was determined there was insufficient probable cause to support the charge.

• A Lopez deputy responded to a DUI call. The driver fled on foot by the time Law Enforcement arrived. The driver was identified by a witness fleeing the scene and a probable cause statement for several criminal citations was created.

May 8

• A Lopez deputy provided a courtesy jump to a vehicle with a dead battery.

• A deputy responded to a civil dispute on Lopez over personal items.

• A Lopez resident called regarding a traffic offense. The driver was located and the incident was discussed.

• On San Juan a deputy conducted a traffic stop on Bailer Hill Road and issued the driver a citation for speeding – 60 mph in a 45 mph zone.

• A deputy on Orcas responded to a report of a protection order violation. After investigation, it was determined no crime had been committed.

May 9

• A Lopez deputy was notified of an elderly driver who refuses to abide by a medical suspension of his driving privileges. A referral was made to Adult Protective Services and the man’s family was notified of the situation.

• A deputy was dispatched to a motor vehicle accident on private property in the Eastsound area. No injuries were reported, and only minor damage was found.

• A deputy on Orcas responded to a citizen assist at the substation. The reporting party just wanted to pass along information.

• A deputy on Orcas responded to a report of a hit-and-run collision. Upon arrival, he discovered a minor non-reportable collision. The driver was still on the scene and the involved parties exchanged information.

• A deputy on Orcas assisted the respondent in a civil stand-by and secured his weapons pursuant to a court order.

May 10

• A Lopez deputy responded to a downed telephone line covering the entrance to the tennis courts. The deputy assisted in directing traffic as OPALCO cleared the line and saved the trapped tennis players.

• A Lopez citizen called with questions concerning landlord-tenant laws.

• A deputy on Orcas responded to a welfare check. Once on scene the person calling requested and received contact information for Compass Health.

• Deputies were dispatched with Orcas Fire and Rescue to a welfare check. The subject was taken into protective custody and transported to the hospital for a mental health evaluation.

• A deputy was dispatched to the Friday Harbor area on a drug call. The deputy arrived and was advised possible drug paraphernalia had been located in a business. The items were taken and entered into evidence.

• Deputies responded to a Lopez residence to investigate a potential domestic violence incident. The investigation revealed the couple had been arguing but that no crime had occurred. Those involved agreed to separate for the evening.
