Submitted by the San Juan County Sheriff’s Office.
On Dec. 28, 2022, a deputy with the San Juan County Sheriff’s Office initiated an investigation into a potential felony crime on Orcas Island.
The investigation revealed that the suspect had left Washington state. After thorough investigation, the deputy determined there was probable cause to charge the suspect with Residential Burglary in the Second Degree.
The case was subsequently forwarded to the San Juan County Prosecutor’s Office and a warrant for the suspect’s arrest was issued.
On Oct. 6, 2024, the suspect was apprehended by the Gilbert Police Department in Arizona, who held him in Maricopa County Jail pending extradition to Washington. On Jan. 12, a sergeant and a detective of the San Juan County Sheriff’s Office traveled to Arizona, where they took custody of the suspect on Jan. 14, and transported him back to San Juan County to face charges.
We would like to express our gratitude to the investigating deputy, the Gilbert Police Department, the Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office and our own sergeant and detective for their exceptional teamwork and perseverance in bringing this individual back to San Juan County to stand trial for his crime.
