Steve Horn receives grant for return to Bosnia

An Artist Guild-sponsored opening reception for Steve Horn at the Lopez Center for Community and the Arts will be held on Friday, May 8 from 5 to 6:30 p.m. to celebrate his selection by New York City CEC ArtsLink as one of its 2009 award recipients.

This is the first time his exhibition “Pictures Without Borders: Bosnia Revisited, has ever been on display on the San Juans. The concept for the show, which will be up until June 17, came from a slide talk Horn gave in 2004 at the Lopez Community Center after his return from Bosnia.

The exhibit was created as part of the Religion, Conflict, and Peace building Initiative at Emory University Schatten Gallery in late 2007. The photo display has traveled to the Bosnian Embassy in Washington, DC, Amherst College in Massachusetts, and the Dayton International Peace Museum and Dayton Metro Library in Ohio.

Horn received one of 12 ArtsLink Project awards, designated for U.S. artists and arts organizations undertaking creative activities with partners in Central Europe, Russia, Central Asia and the Caucasus.

The ArtLink grant will support his collaboration with the director of the Travnik Museum in Bosnia to produce and distribute an exhibition of photographs and bilingual texts chronicling trips to the Balkans in 1970 and 2003.

Horn will travel to the Balkans in October to present a slide talk and meet with local photographers.
