Standing Rock: Solidarity Fundraiser for Standing Rock is gathering for a dessert potluck 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 25 on Orcas Island at the Oddfellows Hall, 112 Haven Rd, Eastsound.

On the organizations Facebook page it stated, “It will be a dessert potluck so please bring something to share for dessert if you are able.”

Standing Rock is raising funds to stop the Dakota Access Pipeline project.

The Facebook page states, “We will have a panel of folks who have been at Standing Rock over the past month including Orcasian Emmett Adam who recently returned and Seattleite Jessa Lewis who has been back and forth over the past couple of months bringing people, supplies and supporting a native film crew who are making a documentary film about the Dakota Access Pipeline protests.”

There will also be photos shown, video clips along with a period to have questions answered.

The group states it is calling for a, “national day of action in support of Standing Rock as they enter their most challenging times yet.”

According to the groups’s Facebook page, “The Dakota Access Pipeline project is approaching a critical point with construction nearing completion. The 1,700-mile pipeline is currently more than 87 percent complete. To complete the pipeline construction will have to go through sacred sites currently occupied by camps of peaceful protesters and ultimately under the Missouri River. We must not allow this to happen.

“The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers has asked the DAPL (Dakota Access Pipeline) to voluntarily cease progress 20 miles from the river on both sides. DAPL (Dakota Access Pipeline) is moving ahead full steam.

“The permit for DAPL construction expires in March. If water protectors are able to delay construction unit the permit expiration, Energy Transfer Partners will have to re-file.”
