The San Juan County Sheriff’s Office responded to the following calls.

June 11

A Friday Harbor Middle School employee reported an older woman making comments to the students that seemed inappropriate. After investigating and talking with the woman, it was determined no crime had been committed.

SAFE San Juans and a citizen visited the Sheriff’s Office Orcas Island substation to have the deputy document an incident that occurred. The deputy asked if they wanted an investigation into the matter and the citizen did not.

San Juan Island deputies stopped a vehicle as the registered owner had a suspended driver’s license. The driver was not a registered owner, and no violations were observed.

An Orcas Island deputy conducted a traffic stop for a driver who was speeding 57 mph in a posted 35 mph speed zone on Terrill Beach Road. The driver was subsequently issued an infraction for speed, expired registration and operating a motor vehicle without insurance.

June 12

A San Juan deputy responded to a report of a domestic dispute. Investigation revealed the incident to be verbal in nature, and the parties had separated themselves prior to arrival. All involved were counseled regarding the incident, and outlets for assistance were suggested.

An Orcas Island deputy responded to the 600 block of Obstruction Pass Road for a theft call. A report was taken.

A San Juan Island deputy stopped a vehicle for having expired vehicle registration. The driver was subsequently issued an infraction for expired vehicle registration greater than two months.

A San Juan Island deputy stopped a vehicle for having expired vehicle registration. The driver was subsequently issued an infraction for operating a motor vehicle without insurance, and multiple warnings were given.

An Orcas deputy assisted a local citizen who was a victim of a hit-and-run. The collision happened at Buck Park in the evening. If you noticed any vehicle that side-swiped a white-colored van that was at Buck Park, please contact the Sheriff’s Office.

An Orcas Island deputy conducted a traffic stop for a driver who was operating a vehicle without a license plate on Main Street. The driver was subsequently issued an infraction for operating a motor vehicle without registration and plate.

A San Juan Island deputy stopped a vehicle on Argyle Avenue. The driver was subsequently issued an infraction for driving 37 mph in a 25 mph zone, and multiple warnings were given.

June 13

A Lopez deputy collected marijuana for destruction at the owner’s request.

A deputy and Lopez emergency medical services responded to the crash of an electric scooter. A report was completed, and the rider’s property was secured.

The Sheriff’s Office issued an infraction to a vehicle parked in a no-parking zone off of Obstruction Pass Road on Orcas Island.

A San Juan deputy conducted a traffic stop on Pear Point Road. The driver was issued an infraction for 51 mph in a 25 mph zone.

An Orcas Island deputy responded to a theft case in the Eastsound area. Unfortunately, the incident happened approximately in January and no suspects were identified. A case number was provided to the victim.

A former tenant was suspected of theft on Lopez Island. A report was completed. Probable cause for a charge does not exist at this time.

An Orcas Island deputy authored a report of fraud for a local citizen in the Eastsound area. No crime had occurred.

A driver on Lopez was issued an infraction for speed, 48 mph in a 35 mph zone of Ferry Road. Additional infractions were issued for no proof of vehicle insurance and no valid driver’s license.

A San Juan Island deputy stopped a vehicle on Guard Street. The driver was subsequently issued a criminal citation for driving while license suspended in the 2nd degree and an infraction for failure to wear a safety belt.

An Orcas Island deputy responded to a report of threats made. After the deputy investigated the allegation, it was revealed that it was a civil matter. Resources were provided to the concerned party.

June 14

Lopez deputies responded to a noise-related harassment complaint.

A Lopez resident turned in found property. The item was submitted to evidence for storage.

A deputy on Orcas Island conducted a traffic stop. The driver was issued a notice of infraction for speeding, 40 mph in a 25 mph zone, inside Moran State Park.

Orcas Island deputies along with Orcas Island Fire and Rescue responded to boaters in distress from their boat sinking. With the help of a whale-watching charter business out of Friday Harbor, they rescued the swimmers in the water. Everyone was safe.

A San Juan Island deputy stopped a vehicle for speeding on Roche Harbor Road. The driver was subsequently issued an infraction for driving 43 mph in a 25 mph zone.

Orcas Island deputies responded to a domestic incident in the Eastsound area. An investigation revealed that the primary aggressor did commit a crime and was subsequently booked into jail. The victim was provided resources, and a 24-hour safety plan was conducted.

June 15

Deputies on San Juan responded to vandalism at the elementary school baseball field. Someone decided to damage property that was not theirs by shattering a window, leaving a door open with a paperclip jammed in the keyhole, and attempting to break the deadbolt and doorknob on a second door.

June 16

An Orcas Island deputy responded to Island Market for a found property call. Upon arrival, a U.S. passport was taken into custody and booked into the sheriff’s station for safekeeping.

An Orcas deputy responded to Falling Tree Road for a possible trespasser. Once the deputy arrived, three people were in a residence where they were squatting. One of the subjects was arrested for outstanding warrants. The owner of the property wanted no law enforcement.

June 17

A deputy on Orcas Island arrested a person in possession of a stolen motor vehicle.
