Fuel line lacerated; road rage report | San Juan County Sheriff’s log

The San Juan County Sheriff’s Office responded to the following calls.

July 23

• A San Juan deputy responded to a report of a collision. No injuries occurred, and no signs of impairment were noted. The deputy facilitated the exchange of information and completed a collision report.

• A Lopez deputy responded to a report of a vehicle with a cut fuel line at the Hunter Bay docks. The matter is under investigation.

• A deputy on Orcas Island took a report of a two-car traffic collision. The driver of the vehicle that caused the accident was given a notice of infraction for failing to yield right of way to the other vehicle.

• A deputy on San Juan Island conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle. The driver was issued an infraction for traveling 41 mph in a posted 25 mph speed zone on Argyle Avenue. A report was completed.

• A deputy on Orcas Island received a report of a domestic disturbance. The investigation showed that no assault took place. This report is for information only.

July 24

• A San Juan deputy responded to a request for a welfare check on Orcas Island. The person was contacted, and no emergency was noted. They were put in touch with local resources to assist them.

• A deputy took a report of a possible road rage incident on Orcas.

• A report of harassment was made to the Sheriff’s Office regarding an incident on Stuart Island. No action was taken at this time, and a report was made.

• An Orcas Island deputy responded to an animal at large in the Buck Mountain area. The deputy recognized the dogs from a previous animal-at-large call where the owner was given a verbal warning. The deputy returned the dogs to their owner, and the owner was given a written warning.

July 25

• A Lopez deputy responded to a report of a stolen vehicle. An unattended truck was taken from a farm without permission and found totaled at the Hummel Lake Preserve parking area. The matter is under investigation.

• An Orcas Island deputy responded to a citizen needing assistance with a lost phone. The citizen lost his phone while visiting Orcas Island, and a local citizen found the phone on a beach. The deputy was able to locate the phone and get the phone back to the owner.

• An Orcas Island deputy responded to an agency requesting assistance for the Sheriff’s Office to investigate a vulnerable adult incident. After investigating the incident, the reporting party did not want any criminal action to take place at this time. The incident was documented.

July 26

• A deputy on San Juan Island observed a parking violation and wrote a ticket to the registered owner of the vehicle.

• A Lopez deputy located a visitor who had lost their keys. The keys were originally found by the Public Works crew.

• An Orcas Island deputy responded to a hit-and-run collision in the Olga area. There was no video footage or witnesses of the accident. The incident was documented for the victim’s insurance company.

• An Orcas Island deputy responded to a welfare check for a citizen and their dog in the Eastsound area. The deputy did not observe any signs of distress, and the incident was documented.

• A deputy on Orcas Island was assigned a dog bite by callback. The incident was reported by a Washington State Parks ranger. The involved parties were, reportedly, no longer on scene.

• An Orcas Island deputy conducted a traffic stop for a driver who was speeding 51 mph in a posted 35 mph speed zone on Orcas Road. The driver was subsequently issued an infraction for speed, failing to renew expired registration and given a verbal warning for other infractions.

• A deputy on San Juan Island conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle. The driver was issued an infraction for driving 50 mph in a posted 25 mph speed zone. A report was completed.

• A deputy on San Juan Island conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle. The driver was issued an infraction for traveling 52 mph in a posted 25 mph speed zone on Mullis Street. A report was completed.

• A deputy on San Juan Island took custody of personal items located at Jackson Beach. The owner of the items was not local to Friday Harbor and was off-island by the time they were contacted. Their belongings were submitted into evidence as found property.

July 27

• A deputy on Orcas Island conducted a traffic stop. The driver was issued a notice of infraction for speeding 39 mph in a 20 mph zone.

• A local man was arrested for trespassing in a County park. Mental health services were requested.

• An Orcas Island deputy responded to a boating accident hit-and-run in the Rosario area. The suspected person who hit the victim’s boat sailed from the area before deputies could question them about what happened. The incident was documented for the victim’s insurance company.

• A deputy on Orcas Island conducted a traffic stop. The driver was issued a notice of infraction for speeding 39 mph in a 25 mph zone.

• Deputies on San Juan responded to a welfare check of a suicidal individual. He was found unconscious after stealing a bicycle. The male then woke up; he was agitated and had erratic emotions and body movements, clearly in an altered state. The male was transported to the hospital for further care.

• A deputy on San Juan Island took a report of theft of alcohol from a grocery store. The suspect was located near the ferry terminal. The male initially provided a fake name and other false information. Ultimately, the male was identified and was issued a criminal citation for theft in the third degree.

July 28

• A deputy on Orcas Island was dispatched for a former employee who said he was refusing to leave the premises. Upon contact, the former employee agreed to leave.

• A credit card was found on San Juan Island and turned into the Sheriff’s Office. The card was put in the property and evidence room.

July 29

• Adult Protective Services reported possible financial abuse in Friday Harbor. An investigation concluded that a scam phone call resulted in no monetary loss.

• The Sheriff’s Office took a report of vehicle damage that occurred to a parked vehicle. The incident was documented for insurance purposes.

• A deputy on Orcas Island conducted a traffic stop. The driver was issued a notice of infraction for speeding 56 mph in a 40 mph zone.

• A deputy on San Juan Island conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle. The driver was issued an infraction for traveling 43 mph in a posted 25 mph speed zone. A report was completed.

• A deputy on Orcas Island conducted a traffic stop. The driver was issued a notice of infraction for speeding 56 mph in a 35 mph zone.
