May 9: A Decatur man believes someone with a gun is responsible for destroying a webcam-type camera which was used by members of his homeowners association to track water and weather conditions. The camera, capable of broadcasting images in real-time, was reportedly struck by gunfire and sustained $5,300 damage.
May 10: A 15-year-old Orcas Island boy was ticketed for riding a bicycle on the wrong side of the road after failing to comply when a deputy ordered him to stop. The boy reportedly was riding on the wrong side of North Beach Road as he passed the deputy, who was standing next to his patrol car. He was confronted several blocks away, and at that time had been riding on the sidewalk.
May 13: A pair of dogs reportedly attacked and killed two lambs during the latest deadly invasion into a Lopez Island man’s pasture on Center Road. It’s reportedly the fourth and fifth lamb fatality in the same pasture since Easter.
A Lopez Island man suspects someone in a dark gray, foreign-model compact car may be responsible for the theft of his recently purchased fence material. About 150 feet of rolled-steel fencing vanished while the 43-year-old was taking a break from installing a fence around a garden at his Lopez Sound Road home. He reportedly saw the car leaving the area at about the time he noticed that the bundle of fencing, valued at $100 and which was left near the road, had disappeared.
A sidewalk sandwich-board disappeared from outside the Orcas Christian School in an apparent late-night theft. Valued at $250, the sandwich-board had the school emblem imprinted on it, and a notice advertising Test Day Drive taped to it at the time it vanished.
May 14: A Lopez Island man claims someone siphoned about eight gallons of gas out of his Dodge Caravan while it was parked near the ferry terminal. The eight gallons of gas, valued at $25, reportedly disappeared sometime between 1 p.m. and 5 p.m.
May 17: A Bainbridge Island man faces charges of auto theft following a late-night arrest on the west side of Orcas Island. The 48-year-old, who was taken into custody at the West Beach Resort campground at about 10 p.m., is accused of stealing a minivan belonging to an Orcas Island man.
