Orcas Island’s aging performance artists will take to the spotlight for the second annual Seniors Have Talent.
“At last year’s show we filled the senior center, and the crowd loved it,” said Didier Gincig, Hearts and Hands coordinator. “This year we decided to offer two shows.”
The shows, 2 p.m. matinees on Saturday, Nov. 5 and 12 at the Orcas Island Senior Center, will feature many talented seniors. The shows will highlight the same performers presenting different acts. The event is a fundraiser for Hearts and Hands, a program that provides the senior community companionship, transportation assistance, light housekeeping assistance and other help.
“It’s one of the most fantastic opportunities for the community to see what a vibrant senior population we have on Orcas,” said Jami Mitchell, San Juan County’s senior services specialist for Orcas Island. “It’s an amazing thing.”
The show will feature performances by Martin Lund, Ron Myers, Tony Lee, Carl Berger and more. Event sponsors are Green Construction, Crow Valley Gallery, Island Hardware, Orcas Island Realty, San Juan Insurance, T Williams Realty, Sara Dailey-Smith and Alan Smith.
Tickets can be purchased at Darvill’s Bookstore and the senior center for $15. Rides for seniors to and from the shows are available by calling 376-7723. “Talent has no age and age has no limitation,” said Iris Tate, front desk volunteer at the senior center.
