School hires new nurse and special education teacher

Orcas Island School District has hired a new nurse, Cindy Sapp.

Sapp started out working with children as a pediatric nurse at Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore, Maryland. She also had a lengthy career as a school nurse in larger Washington state districts, and her experience includes serving all grade levels. She moved to Orcas this year with her husband Steve Sapp (Island Market’s new beverage manager). He was first to make the move here after years of working as an executive at Verizon. Their two children are now grown: Ryan (27) is enrolled as a first-year law student at the University of Washington and Conner (25) works at a Bellevue financial firm. Sapp says she is looking forward to getting to know the students of OISD.

Melissa Davis is the new high school special education teacher. With a passion for education and student success, Davis has taught in Oak Harbor, Washington, California and Hawaii and has more than 10 years of experience.

Davis moved to Orcas with her son Jeff and their little Chihuahua Jellybean. They have been enjoying all that Orcas has to offer, including the skate park, camping, fishing, swimming and exploring the shorelines and beaches. They say they’re both looking forward to a fantastic school year.
