The San Juan County Sheriff’s Office responded to the following calls.

Nov. 21

• A Lopez deputy stopped a driver on Mud Bay Road and issued them a citation for speeding, 50 mph in a posted 35 mph zone.

• A solar panel, found on San Juan, was turned in to the Sheriff’s Office. The panel was checked into the property and evidence room.

• A Lopez deputy was dispatched to a parking problem.

• A deputy was dispatched to a vandalism call on Lopez. A flag had been torn down and removed from where it had hung.

• A deputy was dispatched to a theft call in Lopez village. The purse was located where the owner left it and the theft charge was unfounded.

• A deputy responded to an accident with no injury in Eastsound. All parties involved agreed to settle things civilly.

• A deputy on Orcas responded to a safekeeping call in which the calling party turned in a handgun.

Nov. 22

• A Lopez deputy was dispatched to a mail theft call and documented the incident.

• On San Juan, a deputy received a report of suspicious activity. The caller reported that a shed door had been opened and a metal pipe had been moved from its original location. Currently, there are no suspects.

Nov. 23

• A San Juan deputy stopped the driver of a vehicle for speeding and crossing the center line. The driver said they were rushing to the store for cranberry sauce and issued a citation for speeding – 65 mph in a 45 mph zone, plus a warning for improper lane usage.

Nov. 24

• A Lopez livestock owner reported the death of one sheep and injury to two others. It’s unknown which dog(s) were responsible.

• A Lopez deputy responded to a theft call.

• A deputy stopped the driver of a vehicle on Fisherman Bay Road on Lopez. The driver received citations for driving without a license, for not having insurance, for possessing a vehicle without registration, and for failure to renew an expired registration of more than two months.

• On Orcas, a deputy received a suspicious call from a concerned citizen due to a note she received. A welfare check was conducted and it was discovered that the concern was due to health-related issues and resources were provided to the family.

• A San Juan deputy stopped the driver of a vehicle for speeding on Pear Point Road. The driver could not produce valid insurance and was issued a citation for speeding – 45 mph in a 25 mph zone, and a warning for the insurance violation.

• A Lopez deputy stopped the driver of a vehicle on Fisherman Bay Road. The driver was subsequently issued a citation for speeding 50 mph in a posted 25mph zone.

Nov. 26

• A Lopez driver was involved in an early morning single-vehicle collision.

Nov. 27

• A driver on Lopez was issued a citation for traveling 51 mph in a 35 mph zone of Mud Bay Road and for operating a vehicle without insurance.

• A deputy on Orcas responded to a parking complaint regarding possibly abandoned vehicles at a county day-use area.

Nov. 28

• A Lopez deputy responded to a report of two escaped dogs. The dogs had entered a neighbor’s coop and killed a chicken. The dogs were returned to their owner, who received a citation.

Nov. 29

• Deputies on San Juan responded to a report of a domestic incident. The involved parties argued about vehicle paperwork. After talking with those involved, there was insufficient evidence to prove that a crime had been committed.
