San Juan County Sheriff’s Log | Email confusion; landlord threatens tenant; barking dogs

The San Juan County Sheriff’s Office responded to the following calls.

Dec. 6

• While conducting a business check of a local Eastsound establishment a disturbance occurred. The deputy conducted a preliminary investigation and completed an informational report.

Dec. 7

• At 3:24 p.m. a deputy in Friday Harbor received a report that transients had been trespassing. The deputy was also informed that mail was found on the roof of the building. The mail had been stolen from several locations in a neighborhood. Currently, there are no suspects.

Dec. 8

• A Lopez deputy responded to a residential burglary alarm at a home on the north end of the island. The house was found secure with no signs of intrusion or attempts at forced entry. No further action was taken.

• A Lopez deputy was dispatched on a report of a threatening email. It was found to be a misunderstanding between involved parties.

• A Friday Harbor resident reported a neighborhood dispute. Both parties were spoken to at the residence.

• At about 9:15 p.m. a deputy took a theft report over the phone that occurred in Eastsound earlier. There may be a video surveillance of the suspect(s). A report was taken.

• Deputies responded to a Friday Harbor residence after a report of a juvenile runaway. The paperwork was completed and the juvenile was entered as a runaway. Deputies checked possible addresses and locations. The juvenile was located and returned to his parents.

Dec. 9

• A Lopez Island deputy responded to a threat complaint on School Road after a tenant alleged that her landlord threatened to kill her. The landlord denied making a threat and the tenant subsequently declined to file a formal complaint. A report was completed.

• A deputy responded to a late night collision on Orcas. Further investigation revealed two people in the car were uninjured. Probable cause was determined that the driver was driving under the influence. The driver was arrested, processed and released with a promise to appear in court.

Dec. 10

• A San Juan Island deputy was dispatched in reference to a possible domestic violence situation. The reporting deputy arrived and contacted the involved parties. The parties were separated. The investigation is ongoing.

• A deputy stopped a vehicle that drove off the roadway in Eastsound. Further investigation revealed there was probable cause to believe that the male driver was driving under the influence. The male was arrested, processed and released with a promise to appear in court.

• A deputy was dispatched to a non-injury accident in Eastsound. The vehicle had been taken from where the owner left it the night before. The keys were in the vehicle and it was left unlocked. No suspects are known at this time.

• A Lopez deputy was dispatched for a citizen dispute involving a landlord and tenant. Both parties agreed to settle differences peacefully.

• Deputies were dispatched to a citizen dispute in Eastsound. After talking with the parties involved everything was resolved and checked out okay.

• Lopez Island deputies were called to assist a parent with a child custody matter. The situation was resolved without incident. A report was taken.

• At 10:10 p.m. a deputy contacted a citizen in Friday Harbor. The citizen had been drinking and was on conditions not to drink. This case was sent to the probation department for the violation.

Dec. 12

• At 2:34 a.m. a deputy in Friday Harbor received a report of a domestic dispute. The investigation showed that no one had been assaulted. This report is for information only.

• At about 8:33 a.m. a deputy was dispatched to a non-injury accident at Terrill Beach Road and Mt. Baker Road. A vehicle was unable to stop in the snow/ice roadway conditions and went through the stop sign striking a commercial vehicle. The at-fault driver was cited. A report was taken.

• A deputy was contacted about a theft occurred in the Friday Harbor area. The victim advised he recently lost an electronic device and has since been in contact via email requesting the device’s passwords.

• At 12 p.m, a deputy was dispatched to a vehicle that was stuck off-roading on San Juan County Land Bank Property. The vehicle was removed from the property. The driver was cited.

• A deputy stopped and warned a commercial vehicle-dump truck for not having working headlights, taillights or brake lights, and an expired medical card.

Dec. 13

• At about 11 a.m., an Orcas deputy was dispatched to a noise complaint of two dogs continuously barking since 10 a.m. that day. This was the ninth call for service regarding these dogs barking. An infraction was issued to the dog’s owner again. A report was made.

• Deputies were dispatched to a domestic assault in Friday Harbor. Deputies took the suspect into custody and later booked the suspect into jail for assault in the fourth degree.
