After a monumental season, and a first place finish in the Northwest 1B Boys Basketball League, Orcas Christian captured the District 1 Championship after a sound, 52-28, win over Mount Vernon Christian.

In the win, senior guard, Michael Harris dazzled and dazed as he swept around the Hurricane defense in a whirlwind of offense. Harris would finish with 24 points and would earn the KAPS-FM Player of the Game.

Harris’ guard play attracted big attention from the Mount Vernon defense, allowing several Saints to get quality looks at the basket. 8th Grade rookie phenom, Corey Aragon, took advantage of the diversion and tallied 12 points, six of which came from 3-point range.

Cyrus Amour again set the pace underneath the basket, as he caused havoc against the Mount Vernon post defense. Amour finished several close range shots that stemmed off of strong power moves. Amour would have 13 points and would go 75 percent from the free-throw line.

It was a tough game because we had a couple of players fighting through injuries and sickness,” said Harris. “But its nice to see the hard work we put in the gym show.”

The win puts the Saints in the Tri-districts, and will play their first game this Saturday in Lummi against either Shoreline Christian, Clallam Bay or Evergreen Lutheran.
