Resounding reunion, dashing dog, nighttime noise | San Juan County Sheriff’s Log

The San Juan County Sheriff’s Office responded to the following calls.

Feb. 6

• A deputy on San Juan responded to a report of a sick animal.

• A San Juan deputy was dispatched to a report of trespassing and took the suspect into custody. The suspect was later released with a citation.

Feb. 7

• A deputy on Orcas responded to a complaint of a protection order violation. After an investigation, the deputy determined there was insufficient probable cause to believe the order had been violated.

• A San Juan deputy was dispatched to a welfare check. A report was taken and forwarded to another agency.

• A San Juan deputy issued the driver of a vehicle citations for not having a valid driver’s license with identification and driving with wheels off the roadway.

Feb. 8

• A deputy was dispatched to an illegal campsite in the Friday Harbor area. The deputy arrived and located the campsite; the camper was contacted at another location.

• In Friday Harbor, a deputy was contacted about a citizen assist.

• A deputy on Orcas located a person wanted for questioning in a theft case. An interview was conducted and a report taken.

• San Juan deputies were dispatched to a report of a domestic assault. A suspect was arrested for assault in the fourth degree domestic violence and malicious mischief in the third degree domestic violence.

• A Lopez deputy issued a driver a citation for failing to stop at a stop sign in the 2200 block of Fisherman Bay Road.

Feb. 9

• A deputy was dispatched to a welfare check in the Friday Harbor area. The reporting deputy discovered the issue was a custody issue that was resolved.

• A Lopez deputy returned a wayward sheep to its pasture where it was resoundingly welcomed by the rest of the flock.

• A deputy in Friday Harbor took a report of a lost wallet.

• A deputy was dispatched to the Friday Harbor area about a welfare check. The deputy arrived, contacted the people involved and asked one person to leave the area.

• A Lopez deputy investigated an incident of a dog accidentally breaking free from its leash and its person, then running and fighting with another dog. The incident was documented in a report, and the dog’s owner received a warning that if any further violations were reported enforcement action would be taken.

• An Orcas deputy issued a driver a citation for driving without a valid driver’s license and a warning for speeding.

• An Orcas deputy stopped a driver who was found to have a suspended license in the second degree. A report was taken, a citation given and a licensed driver drove the vehicle away.

• A Lopez deputy was called to investigate nighttime firearm use, a violation of the county noise ordinance.

Feb. 10

• A Lopez resident called about suspicious activity at his neighbor’s house. A deputy checked the residence and found no one was home. Deputies will follow up.

• A deputy in Friday Harbor received a report from a resident that someone yelled threats at his residence. The other person was contacted and warned.

• San Juan deputies responded to a reported death in Friday Harbor. The investigation is ongoing.

• A San Juan deputy issued a driver citations for failing to transfer a title within 45 days; for failing to yield; for not having insurance; and for having an expired vehicle registration.

• A cell phone was turned into the Orcas Sheriff’s Office substation. The owner’s family was notified.

• A deputy on Orcas issued a driver a citation for speeding 15 mph over the limit and for not having proof of insurance. Additionally, a probable cause statement will be forwarded to the county prosecutor’s office for driving with a suspended license in the second degree and for an ignition interlock violation.

Feb. 11

• A deputy was dispatched to a report of a domestic incident in the Friday Harbor area. The incident was determined to be verbal only and the involved people were separated.

• On Lopez, the reporting deputy was contacted about a civil problem. The people were contacted and they wished to have trespass letters served. The deputy completed the letters to be served and filed a report.

• A San Juan deputy responded to a report of fraud. The investigation continues.
