Public meetings for input on San Juan Islands Scenic Byways

The draft Corridor Management Plan for the San Juan Islands Scenic Byway will be presented twice on Orcas Island at public meetings scheduled for Wednesday, Feb. 16. The morning meeting will be from 10 a.m. to noon at the Olga Café and the presentation will be repeated at the Outlook Inn in Eastsound from 1 to 3 p.m. The public is invited to hear a presentation on highlights from the plan and provide comments to help guide the plan to finalization. Draft designs for the byway logo have been developed, and these will also be presented for public input.

A CMP is created by communities along scenic byways to identify strategies for stewardship, protection, and enhancement of the byway’s unique qualities, as well as actions for promoting the byway and improving visitor experience. The San Juan Island Scenic Byway includes routes on San Juan and Orcas. More information can be found at: visitsanjuans.com and byways.org

If you are interested in reviewing the full draft CMP, sections of the document will be available on the Visitors Bureau Web site (follow link above) on Feb. 9, 2011. A comment form will be available for public use, or comments may be e-mailed directly to holli.coleman@otak.com.
