Prime rib dinner to support 3-Day Walk for breast cancer

Island Girls and Guys, the 15-member Orcas Island team training now for the 60 mile, 3-day Susan G. Komen Walk for the Cure in Seattle this September, are holding a gala fundraising dinner “60 Dollars for 60 Miles Toward the Cure” Saturday, May 2 in the Orcas Senior Center Betty Lundeen Room.

Chef, restaurateur, and walker Paul Carrick will serve prime rib with salad and savory vegetables, followed by Dottie Cornelius’ handmade individual apple pies a la mode, the same pies made famous island-wide at the team’s bake sale earlier this year. Premium estate wines will be served and bottles offered at auction.

Supporters of the team and event include Island Market, Eastsound Sporting Goods, Cindy Morgan/The Nest, Severino Cellars and Two Mountain Winery, and a variety of contributors to the silent auction, which will feature such items as gift baskets, local gift certificates, sumptuous take-home desserts, and floral bouquets.

Presentations following dinner include a slide show of the Orcas team at walks in previous years and a short video about breast cancer and the 3-Day Walk for a Cure.

Tickets are $60 and are available at Darvill’s Bookstore, Ray’s Pharmacy, at tables outside Island Market on April 11 and April 26 or from any team member. Seating is limited.
